Press release from 05.09.2024: The model railroad layouts for the Int. Modellbahn-Ausstellung Friedrichshafen 2024 introduce themselves!
Gauge 2m (G): Amarillo Mountain Rail Road – USA Layout The newest addition to the LGB Friends from the Lower Rhine is the Amarillo Mountain Rail Road (AMRR) segment layout! The installation shows motifs that were typical for us Europeans in the 1950s. In addition to Mount Rusmore and Red Rocks, you can also see the striking fire escapes of New York’s old town. The tracks allow the use of long trains with huge steam locomotives, such as the Bigboy! Operator: LGB-Freunde Niederrhein, D-47057 Duisburg Layout size: 24 x 5 meters Gauge 2m (G): North German lowlands with a peat mine Three trains run on the oval in different directions, two of which automatically detach at the station. The peat extraction is supplied and disposed of by a Regner field railroad in shuttle operation as in the 60s/70s. In the depot, a steam locomotive shuttles from the engine shed to the coaling station and back. Almost all of the buildings are self-built, there is a fully equipped delicatessen and a station café in the station, a soccer pitch, a campsite and wild nature are also part of the complex. Driving is done in digital mode.
Operator: Friends of LGB Northern Germany, D- 21035 Hamburg Layout size: 10 x 4 m Gauge 1: Gauge 1 Wehrmacht from Denmark The Spor-1-Wehrmacht layout shows a line-up of German troop transporters as they might have looked during the Second World War. The models have been recreated using historical photographic material and drawings. Among other things, you will find a copy of Hermann Göring’s staff car and the platoon transport of a staff company in an armored division. All models are made from 1:35 scale kits, painted and patinated. The layout itself, which measures 16 meters x 7 meters, consists of over 50 modules, which together comprise over 200 meters of track and more than 40 points. The track plan includes a track line as well as a freight ramp, a station area, a harbor area and both a diesel and a coal-fired power plant. The layout was inspired by the railroad and harbor area of Heiligenhafen in northern Germany as it looked around 1945. You will therefore find, among other things, a copy of the Heiligenhafen railroad station including the goods shed from that time. In the harbor you can experience a fully functional gantry crane as it was in the port of Hamburg during the Second World War. The diesel and coal-fired BW facilities include a fully functional coal crane, turntable and rail platform. In connection with the BW facilities there is also a factory building, three locomotive sheds and two signal boxes, all with complete interior direction. Track 1: Trajectory system Lindau Lake Constance trajectories were railroad ferries that were set up by the railroad companies to transport railroad freight cars across Lake Constance.
In the heyday of the railroad, they were particularly important for freight transport. We show the trajectory system that was located directly at the port of Lindau. In addition to loading, we also show shunting traffic. Operator: BSW Moellbahngruppe Lindau, D-88131 Lindau Layout size: 9 x 7 m 0 Gauge: Stadtoldendorfer Gipsbahn / Duinger Sandbahn The 0e layout Stadtoldendorfer Gipsbahn describes the mining, processing and transportation of gypsum stones from the quarry via the gypsum works to the loading of the finished product.
All processes correspond to what actually happened on the prototype that operated until 1958.
All buildings and vehicles have been reproduced from original drawings or photos.
The highlight of the layout is the replica of the braking hill.
The model railroad layout “Duinger Sandbahn” consists of six segments and shows the transportation of sand with a light railroad from the pit to a standard-gauge branch line.
The sand is loaded manually and unloaded mechanically using a tipper wagon. Operator: Feldbahn Mühlenanger, D-37627 Stadtoldendorf Layout size: 8 x 8 m H0 gauge: Hallertauer Bockerl – Mainburg terminus A special modular layout with many original replicas of the former branch line was put together for the trade fair. Starting from the most important Mainburg station with its large hop halls, the route runs through the former operating stations and striking sections of the Hallertau. Lots of information about the prototype, pictures, stories and anecdotes can be found directly on the layout, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the era of the 50s – 70s. The locomotives are equipped with sound and all passenger carriages are realistically aged and have figures and interior lighting. Numerous “red buttons” on the front of the module encourage you to press them.
It’s exciting to try this out and see what happens! Of course, the club members are always ready to answer visitors’ questions and are happy to explain any details. Operator: Bockerl fahr zua!, D-84104 Rudelzhausen Layout size: 20 x 7 meters H0 gauge: Large modular layout with double-track main line The H0 layout on display is part of a large modular layout with many beautifully landscaped modules.
It consists of a double-track main line with a single-track branch line.
Trains up to a length of 8 meters can run on the main line, as they can be parked in the two large hairpin bends.
This means that nothing stands in the way of a full-scale 4000-metre long ore train called “Langer Heinrich”, as it ran between Emden and the Ruhr area in its day, consisting of two steam locomotives and 50 bulk goods wagons.
There are two railroad stations on the branch line, one of which is designed as a reversing station.
Another group of modules on the main line shows a small district with an adjacent funfair.
Trucks and buses run in the town using a digital car system.
The funfair consists of a marquee, Ferris wheel, various stalls, bumper cars and a Ferris wheel with corresponding background noise and lighting effects.
Vehicles in two-wire (Fleischmann, Roco, Trix) and three-wire technology (Märklin) run simultaneously on the entire layout, which is unlikely to be found in this form on any other model railway layout.

H0 gauge: epoch flair – From Emathal through the Kolketal to Pohlen The ModellBahnTeam Osnabrück e.V. has been building this large segment layout since 2002.
A large part of the layout has been replaced or renewed by the members in recent years, so that the current layout has completely changed its appearance.
The H0 layout comprises an electrified main line and a large main station with stabling facilities.
A branch line also branches off here.
Trains are shunted, staged and parked in the station.
All digitally controlled and automated.
Shunting locomotives bring local trains to the platform tracks, push finished wagon fleets into the stabling facilities or deliver the corresponding wagons to the main post office.
Freight and passenger trains run in wide curves through the countryside on the parade route. The main line passes under the idyllic half-timbered village of Pohlen, which has a small station on the branch line. The entire system is automated and the trains run according to a timetable. The layout and its builders have been known for several years in social media and on YouTube under the name “Epochenflair”. H0 gauge: Rail Innovation, small Leipzig In addition to a shortened version of the Leipzig railroad station, several well-known Leipzig buildings can be discovered on a scale of 1:87 and in between there is the hustle and bustle of the big city that we are all familiar with.
In addition to trains, which are true to the original with chronic delays, and streetcars, numerous CarMotion vehicles such as trucks can be observed on the road as they make their way through the city past the fire station, the bus station and the Westin Hotel.
The vehicle fleet includes original Viessmann models as well as converted stationary models.
These can travel a total distance of 173.5m.
A large fairground and a stadium have been created at the rear of the layout.
While over 25,000 people celebrate in the stadium, the rides on the fairground shine in all colors of light thanks to thousands of SMDs.
In addition to over-the-counter kits, you can also see self-constructed rides that were produced using 3D printers. The tracks have been renewed and most of the landscape has been refreshed. It was converted from a pendulum layout with an automatic pendulum system to a circular layout with a staging yard so that the trains could be parked and more trains could run on the layout. The layout is built in eras 3, 4 and 5. Only steam locomotives and diesel locomotives are operated on the layout because it is a branch line. Locomotive handling is shown in detail for all types of traction.
The operational locomotives take over the freight train in the marshalling yard.
This was put together in advance via the hump.
Extensive detailing is very important to the builders.
For example, the interiors of both roundhouses have been completely reproduced.
As a result, the shed roofs are not covered in some areas so that visitors can get a good view.
Another highlight is the hump with eight functional track brakes.
As with the prototype, the wheelsets of the wagons are gripped by the brake shoes and slowed down. Operator: Eisenbahnfreunde Tuttlingen e.V., D-78234 Engen Layout size: 16.7 x 9.7 m H0 gauge: Gröna Sverige ( GreenSweden) The “Gröna Sverige” (Green Sweden) layout shows a detailed representation of a Swedish landscape with prototypical trains.
The layout includes a wide range of elements that reflect the Swedish landscape.
The natural environment is characterized by hills and forests.
Lakes run through the terrain and capture the typical Scandinavian flair.
Great importance was attached to realistic landscaping.
The landscape is clearly in the foreground of this layout.
The houses are built in the traditional Swedish style.
Of course, the “Michel from Lönneberga” and the “Katulthof” cannot be missing in the middle of this scenery.
For the first time, almost all parts of the substructure are manufactured on our CNC milling machine.
The landscape will be shown to its best advantage with a continuous background and its own lighting. Operator: IG Modellbahn Neuhausen e.V., D-78570 Mühlheim Layout size: 8.4 x 1.6 m H0 gauge: Vogelsberger Westbahn The Vogelsberger Westbahn was the anniversary layout for the 50th anniversary of Miba magazine in 1998.
It was once built by Michael Meinhold and 7 colleagues.
Sebastian Koch and Heiko Herholz took over the layout and have extensively renovated it in recent months.
The H0 model will be presented to the public for the first time in Friedrichshafen.
The branch line layout revolves around the Laubach (Oberhessen) station and the Laubacher-Wald stop.
In the prototype, passenger service on the charming branch line ended in 1959.
The model in Friedrichshafen therefore recreates Era III in true style.
Buildings and track systems were created according to the actual prototypes based on historical documents. Framed in a hilly landscape with many details, the railroad operation can be experienced by the viewer.
The layout has been technically overhauled and can now be controlled digitally with an automatic system.
“Westbahner” from the past and present will be on site in Friedrichshafen. Operator: Prioter Modulgesellschaft e.V., D-14641 Wustermark Layout size: 5 x 3.5 m HO gauge: Large modular layout with double-track main line The layout represents the fictitious station “Polchingen” with its large station hall and adjoining depot for steam and diesel vehicles.
The layout is set in Era III, when the German Federal Railroad began converting to the new EDP numbering system.
A shuttle service is operated on the outgoing single-track branch line with terminal station.
At present, the layout consists of 10 designed track modules (172 x 120 cm & 140 x 120 cm) and 6 staging yard modules with a total length of 11.00 m.
11.00 m long, offering space for 16 train sets.
In the current layout, the staging yard is completely visible to visitors, who are welcome to ask questions about the layout.
The 3-conductor system is run with Märklin K-track with slim turnouts.
The Märklin Centralstation 3 and the “Win-Digipet” driving program are used for control.
All of the rolling stock and the buildings are patinated. Operator: Hagen von Ortloff, Lutz Mäder and Rolf Brändle, D-71394 Kernen Layout size: 11 x 6 m TT gauge: Rawcoal loading Scheibe opencast mine The TT layout “Raw coal loading Scheibe opencast mine” measures 5.50 m x 0.96 m and depicts the loading of lignite from the “Scheibe” opencast mine onto the mine railroad.
Two single-track lines in the same direction of travel KBS 134 Hoyerswerda – Cottbus, section Weißkollm – Spreewitz-Süd are integrated.
The layout theme corresponds to the period around 1990.
It is operated in analog mode and has a sequence control system using relays and reed contacts.
All of the coal railroad vehicles were built from kits. A special feature are the blue illuminated signals based on the model of the opencast mines in the GDR. Operator: Modellbahnclub Hoyerswerda e.V., D-02977 Hoyerswerda Layout size: 5.5 x 1 m N-gauge: N-Club International The model railroad layout from N-Club International features a double-track main line with motifs from southern Germany, Switzerland and Great Britain (Stonehenge) – fed by an operational station for fast train changes.
A single-track line branches off (the branch is a replica of “Zimmerschlag” near Böblingen) to “Kloster Blaubeuren”. Operator: N-Club International, D-71120 Grafenau Layout size: 12 x 8 m
N gauge: The Kinzigtalbahn The railroad line from Hausach to Freudenstadt main station largely follows the river Kinzig, which also gives the line its name.
The name “Schwarzwald-Querbahn” is also frequently used.
The single-track branch line is not electrified and provides an interesting route with several tunnels and ramps.
In addition to steam locomotives of the BR 38 and rail buses, the BR V100 with conversion coaches and the BR 627 were later at home on this line.
Some of the most beautiful motifs between Hausach and Schenkenzell have been recreated on 21 modules.
These include the Kinzig bridge before Schenkenzell, the Schenkenburg ruins, the old road underpass before Schenkenzell and the Schenkenzell station in its pre-2004 state with signal forms and connection for loading gravel.
The other motifs are not correctly modeled on a prototype, but show the situations that occur frequently on this railroad line, such as sawmills, Raiffeisen warehouses and excursion pubs.
A small forest festival has also been recreated.
The first terminus station is designed as a depot with engine shed, turntable and all the facilities required for a depot.
The second end section is an open, non-designed end also equipped with a turntable.
To ensure safe operation between the end modules and the Schenkenzell station in between, an optical and acoustic display is built into the respective control tables.

N scale: Trains across America The NTrak Swiss Division association is presenting an N scale layout with the theme of American railroads.
Popular themes are American harbors and rivers, cities and industry, deserts and canyons, prairies and agriculture.
Long American freight trains run on their tracks.
There is a lot of shunting activity on the local industrial tracks. Operator: NTrak Swiss Divison, Switzerland-8037 Zurich Layout size: 12 x 8 m N-gauge: Small town with station and depot The N-gauge layout shows a 2-track line with a branching branch line that runs over a small industrial area.
At the center is the train depot with a turntable and a 10-stall engine shed.
The model railroad layout with the turntable is controlled by computer.
All 10 engine sheds can be opened and closed automatically.
The layout is mainly operated with models from eras IV and V.
