Countdown on! Faszination Modellbau starts live in Friedrichshafen from 05-07 November 2021

High-tech airplanes go steep, detailed miniature railroads chug around, and highly digitized functional models toil away: model builders can finally celebrate their long-awaited community gathering again at Faszination Modellbau on the magnificent exhibition grounds in Friedrichshafen in ten large exhibition halls! The Restart will feature the world’s largest “real steam hall meeting” and the love brand LEGO with its great fan exhibition. Top exhibitors, clubs and associations from all model building sectors will present their new products, action-packed live shows and original hands-on activities for the whole family – on land, on water and in the air!

For three days, the FMT air show “Stars of the Year” with its strong air acts guarantees pure jet feeling and that on the beautifully located airport grounds of the Lake Constance Airport Friedrichshafen parallel to the real air traffic! Masterful pilots will present all their flying skills to their spectators in this special atmosphere from Friday to Sunday, pushing themselves to the limit. Ever seen a “PopTop” with a glider? The ingenious drag combo from the duo Markus Rummer and Dominik Euteneier will show just that: a breathtaking downswing followed by a full-throttle PopTop. Simply heavenly! Ready for takeoff is also the Red Bull Aerobatic team, which will be starting with a completely new formation. Professionally presented and with background music, spectacular formation displays, the hottest sport jets and realistic RC demonstrations of man-carrying aerobatics will delight visitors. Here, the spectators experience the airport ambience under the open sky together with the top pilots.

People, animals, buildings, nature and a small chugging train in a perfect miniature landscape, coupled with the challenge of setting the technology in motion and placing signals correctly. This is a lively, exciting pleasure that makes model railroading a highlight hobby for all generations and is presented in no less than two exhibition halls at “Faszination Modellbau”, with everything the heart desires: model railroaders will find a lot of know-how and great products around the miniature rails at brand manufacturers such as LGB, Trix, Tillig, BEMO, Faller, Herpa and the specialized small series manufacturers. Industry leader Märklin presents its surprise model 2021, the “elegant Schorsch” – a unique one-of-a-kind from the German State Railroad. The high-end version of the express steam locomotive is absolutely to scale, highly detailed, highly precise and largely made of metal. Particularly noteworthy are the great sound functions, the digitally switchable lighting and the speed-dependent dynamic steam output. This time, the “Märklineum” will also be there, offering the museum car for sale in all gauge sizes, and the Märklin Service Team will be on hand to help visitors with advice and assistance in German, Switzerdütsch, and Austrian. Another top address for complex technical knowledge, news and community news is the Model Railroad Forum, which is the place-to-be for inquisitive railroad experts.

Celebrity presenter Hagen von Ortloff from the well-known television series “Eisenbahn-Romantik”, together with Lutz Mäder and Stephan Kraus will present a show layout set in the 1950s and 1960s entitled “Model Railroad and Transport History”. As always, with a lot of fun and quite a few anecdotes that only die-hard model railroaders know. Beautiful and exciting stories from different eras are also told by the creative display facilities of the dedicated clubs and associations. They can’t wait to show off their realistically recreated miniature railroad tracks and landscapes live again to railroad enthusiasts young and old. Above all, they look forward to the face-to-face meetings where details can be discussed and technical refinements can be carried out. There is a lot of human interaction here, and that’s what makes this the most beautiful hobby in the world!

Fancy locomotives steam and puff their way through Halls B2 and B3 on the world’s largest 5-inch and 7 ¼-inch track layout at the popular and world’s largest “live steam indoor meeting.” Here the motto is: “Only real when it steams and smokes”. Lots of fun is guaranteed for families, as the steel steeds invite all visitors to take a ride, steered by highly likeable real steam freaks in nostalgic garb. This popular event presents a unique variety of the engineering art of fully functional steam-powered models of railroads, road vehicles, ships and stationary installations. A technology highlight of a special kind!

Lighter than air – what can it be? Aerostats, also known as airships, which traverse the skies by remote control in the East Foyer. The flying objects filled with gas face various tasks, such as a targeted charge drop. Who do you think comes closest to the finish line? Rather aimless, but definitely with more action, is the Foyer West, where all kinds of funny sky folk cavort. Original RC electric flying models, illuminated Trijet vertical take-off aircraft with thrust vector control and seemingly silent Ultralight Helis demonstrate their perfectly choreographed fun flights to the audience with booming musical accompaniment. Every now and then, R2D2, a fictional robot character from the Star Wars series, comes around the corner and gives a cheerful “beep-beep”. I guess that’s supposed to mean “bravo” in the Druid language.

Recognition and applause from the impressed audience is also guaranteed for the small high-speed drones that will be fighting for every inch in the skies in Hall B4 at the FPV Drone Championship Finale. Here, concentration, skill and dexterity are demanded of the pilots. Nevertheless, losses are not infrequent as they zip through the tricky course.

Landslide ahead! The road is blocked, there is no way through for the trucks. But there, behind the grassy hill, a tracked excavator heroically emerges to clear away the pile of stones. A large dump truck turns the corner and offers its help. In no time at all, the buried road is cleared again and the waiting trucks can finally continue on the large course in Hall A5 to their destination. Let’s just hope that the snow groomers shovel away the snow properly so that the schedule can be kept!

Time and speed are also at stake at the German Open RC-Car Masters in Hall B1. The race is held on asphalt in seven classes in order to achieve the first place on the winners’ podium. Highlights and new releases will be presented during the race breaks, e.g. 1:5 large models, dragsters, RC bikes, sidecar bikes and monster trucks. The Devils Drift Crew will be thrilling the spectators in Hall A6 with monster cool drift action, letting their stylish rear-wheel-drive RWD chassis drift adventurously over the approx. 100-meter-long course. A must for all high-speed fans!

Do you already know the 400 sqm water basin and the exhibition lake of the “Faszination Modellbau” in Friedrichshafen? Here and in Hall A6, top-class ship modeling will be on display with lots of action: Jet ski and surfer races, match races with sailboats, rescue cruiser exercises and funny duck pushing of the Raborator pusher ship models are only a part of the program. The popular show sailing on the large water basin with true-to-scale replicas and professional moderation as well as top-class model demonstrations of all branches of ship modeling guarantee a high fun factor. There is also water fun at the children’s sailing, where landlubbers become seasoned sailors by taking the exam for the helmsman’s certificate for model ships of all sizes. Fantastic worlds, unique architecture and lots of creativity – the enthusiasm for building with LEGO bricks runs through all generations and even lasts into adulthood for some. Just like the members of the LEGO® fan club “Bricking Bavaria e.V.”: they are hobby brickers, serious collectors and professional LEGO builders. At the LEGO Fan Exhibition in Hall A7, adults and children are invited to take a close-up look at their imaginative creations and impressive replicas of well-known buildings. In addition to the spectacular building projects, families can immerse themselves in the world of LEGO® Technic, LEGO® DOTS, LEGO® NINJAGO® and LEGO® VIDIYO™ at Faszination Modellbau Friedrichshafen. Model making and active model sports are a meaningful leisure activity. They train manual dexterity, coordination, responsiveness and are physical activity at the same time. You get away from ubiquitous screen media and learn about possibilities of today’s electronics, modern materials and innovative manufacturing technologies. To give children and young people a first-hand experience of this, exhibitors and associations offer many hands-on activities around the fair, always supported and guided by expert supervisors: Children’s handicrafts on the subject of plastic and cardboard model construction or especially with the material wood, RC action at the Revell stand, where you can test stunt functions on an RC cars course, steer ship models under professional guidance, make the RC driving license on the tractor children’s course with models specially converted for this purpose or get to grips with the model railroad at the BDEF Junior College Europe through free self-construction and play. Young and old alike can once again look forward to a scavenger hunt across the halls and model construction sectors, where they will have to answer questions in order to win one of the great prizes.
